Folder for diploma of honorary citizenship of the Royal City of Pilsen

Paper, calfskin, satin; cast enchased silver, partially gilt; watercolour painting. The leather binding has an embossed frame and shield bosses in the corners; in the centre of the front cover is the coat of arms of the City of Pilsen with ribbons surrounded by a laurel wreath; a case for the city seal and the monogram “OP” (for Obec plzeňská, Municipality of Pilsen) is attached with a cord. Inside the folder is a framed twin leaf inscribed with decorative calligraphy and illustrated with a seated young

woman and ornamental foliage.

Although a native of Pardubice, journalist, author, politician, Pilsen District secretary and Imperial Council member of many years František Schwarz (1840–1906) was a major figure in Pilsen’s cultural life from the 1860s. His numerous activities included contributing to the foundation of the Municipal Museum in Pilsen, becoming the second director of the museum in 1883. (jme)
